HERB HIGHLIGHT
MILK THISTLE
Silybum marianum
GET READY FOR SPRING!
Did you know that our ancestors used an easy, effective technique
that made them healthy after a long winter of inactivity and rich,
fat-laden foods? This simple method made their bodies ready and
able to do all the chores that Spring brought.
They used Sassafras, Milk Thistle, and other herb teas as a tonic to
cleanse their blood and liver.
MILK THISTLE
Silybum marianum
Milk Thistle has been proven to be very beneficial for liver function.
It can reverse liver problems such as cirrhosis, alcohol toxicity,
fatty liver disorders, inflammation of the bile ducts, hardening of
the liver and viral hepatitis. It stimulates protein synthesis.
This herb, the seeds in particular, contain compounds including
silybin, silydianin, and silychristin, known to protect the liver against
some toxins and help increase the liver’s functions. It is an antidote
to the deadly deathcap mushroom, one of the most toxic of liver poisons,
and Milk Thistle is effective when administered within 48 hours.
Its action is almost exclusively on the kidneys and liver.
(Information from “Today’s Herbal Health” by Louise Tenney,
M.H.)
Now we have the merits of Milk Thistle as a superior
liver cleanser, in convenient capsule form.
You can find helpful Milk Thistle on Joanie’s Nature’s Sunshine website:
http://mynsp.com/everlastinggardener/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=4076
and let her know if you'd like to try some.
Or you can easily order directly from this site.
Once you do a liver cleanse, you'll see how GREAT you feel –
AND this will help get you ready for happy Springtime activities!

BENEFITS OF CHOCOLATE
Good, pure chocolate is one of the richest food sources of flavonoids,
which are some of the most powerful antioxidants on earth.
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals -- oxygen molecules that flow
freely through the body and accelerate aging and encourage disease.
Minimally processed chocolate is rich in valuable micronutrients, giving
you meaningful amounts of potassium, zinc, magnesium and iron.
A 2003 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association
showed chocolate helped promote healthy blood pressure levels in the
subjects studied.
Chocolate actually has relatively little caffeine, but many people notice
a quick increase in alertness and improvement in mood that can last
hours after eating.
Another study tells of Italian researchers who studied two groups of 824
subjects who regularly consumed dark chocolate, and 1,317 who did not
eat chocolate. The two groups were studied for one year.
The study showed that the chocolate-eating group (who consumed
one fourth of a three-ounce chocolate bar each day) had significantly
lower levels of C-reactive protein, and no further reduction occurred
when more chocolate was consumed. “The study suggests that eating
small doses of chocolate on a regular basis may reduce inflammation…”
